How it works

Theory, algorithms, and risk analysis

Theory

The theory behind CheckMyPC is that all computer activity leaves behind evidence. Surfing the web, filesharing, instant messaging, and other PC activities all leave tell-tale fingerprints.

Algorithms

CheckMyPC combines concepts similar to Latent Semantic Indexing, automated text classification, and fuzzy string searching to automatically detect and categorize computer content that is not appropriate for children. You don't need to understand the algorithms - CheckMyPC does all of the hard work for you!

CheckMyPC its highly efficient search algorithms to detect unwanted/inappropriate content based on:

Computer usage history exists in the form of logs files and Internet browser history.

File metadata includes filenames, directory names, tags, and other information that can be used to identify unwanted content types.

File content refers to the actual internal content of files. Through advanced analysis techniques, it is possible to identify unwanted content based on the actual byte-streams within a file.

Risk analysis

One of the greatest risks for parents with children that use computers at home is not understanding how their kids are using their PC. CheckMyPC reduces this risk by providing quantitative evidence of how a computer is being used.
